How do you show people or pets love?
My great big ole black grandfather cat Mr. Stubby Wubby butts his head on my leg when I am sitting down. I know that means for me to pick him up and give him a great big hug and cuddle with him. That’s an easy way to show him I love him because he tells me what he wants.
Let’s talk about the stories you have that show how easy it is for you to love.
It is so easy to hug my grandson. He is almost three years old. We cuddle up, and it is a hug here and a hug there. Yesterday, it was sunny in the afternoon when I picked him up from Kindercare. He was hungry, and I hadn’t brought his favorite yogurt, so we opted for McDonald’s Drive-Thru. He ate 1/2 of his burger and two fries and then we were off exploring Green Lake.
Xavier hadn’t brought a coat to daycare, and I had no extra jacket for him. I didn’t have a stroller and didn’t feel like carrying him around Green Lake. But he spied where he wanted to go, and he led the way to the pier. The pier had sunshine beaming down on it. Perfect! We’d both let the sun warm us. We walked all the way down to the dock and sat down.
We looked at the withered up leaf, and he put it in the water. And X found a dime. I showed him how to put it in his pocket, and then he could put it in the bank at home. But this didn’t satisfy him. He pulled the dime back out. He wanted to throw it in the water. I said, “You must make a wish before you do so.” He wished upon something, and then he tossed it in the water.
There were many different kinds of ducks in the water, and we watched every one that went by us. “What do they eat?”, Xavier asked. I googled it and read to him that they eat small fish, fish eggs, snails, worms and slugs.
There was a man on the pier taking photographs of the seagulls and
we watched them too. A small airplane passed overhead. There were people on the water paddling also. We talked about someday rowing in a canoe.
Quiet. The world all around streamed the hustle and bustle past the lake, but we ignored that imaginary world. We sat on the pier watching the lake while the sun was shining down. These moments are love – a hug, holding a hand, a smile, a look of concern, quiet time that is real. These stories are precious. My time with Xavier yesterday was vital. Now that I’ve recorded and written this down, I’ll remember the sunshine time we sat on the pier and watched the lake.
What are your stories around showing people or pets you love them?
