CHAPTER ONE

We Can Change Our Stories If We Don’t Like Them

I was born into poverty, and raised in poverty. We had an outhouse for a bathroom and that’s what did it for me. I remember standing inside of this place when I was seven and saying, “I am not going to live like this. No way.” Saying that changed my attitude and that’s the difference between my family, and me. I am a statistical outlier and knew I wanted to live in a different story.

We do have a choice, even at the age of sixteen.

It wasn’t until I was sixteen that I knew that my energy could also be work. I did this by reading Tarot Cards for myself and other people. I got out of it because you know how life gets in the way  – bills and being a single mom having to support two kids so I worked in a bar. I’m tired all the time. I can’t look after my kids the way I want because I’m too tired.

So I said to myself, “I’m not going to do that anymore.”

I went to school.

But how could I go to school when I didn’t have any money?

Somehow I found a way to support my kids and go to school because I changed my mindset and my attitude.

That shift in my attitude opened doors.
